Paul joined the Summit Road Society Board as Hon. Treasurer in 1986, a position he held until 2022. Paul received a Christchurch Civic Award in 2002 for services to the community and was elected to Honorary Life Membership of the SRS in 2010. He is currently the SRS representative on the Advisory Committee to the Summit Road Authority. Paul is a founding Trustee and Hon. Treasurer of the Harry Ell Summit Road Memorial Trust.

Paul is married to Jennifer who researched and wrote the SRS publication 'Fifty Years Along The Road'.
